Candidates are nominated by their doctoral supervisors with a nomination letter. Supervisors must belong to one of the Cluster’s partner institutes: TUM, LMU, MPA, MPE, MPP, MPIB, IPP, ESO or LRZ. The dissertation must have been submitted to and assessed by the Technical University of Munich (TUM) or Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) between 15 July 2025 and 30 November 2026.
Each doctoral thesis award carries prize money of €2,000. The application deadline is 30 November 2026. The award ceremony and the presentation of the winning work by the awardees will take place during the ORIGINS Excellence Cluster Science Week (15–18 March 2027).
