Beasts above and below the horizon: Do sardines dream of stars?

Do creatures above and below the horizon share a place in our imagination? Does a jellyfish galaxy have something to do with a jellyfish that lives in the ocean? And does a school of sardines resemble a cluster of young stars? In this Kosmisches Kino, we join Dr Amelia Bayo (ESO) on a journey above and below the coastal horizon.

Do creatures above and below the horizon share a place in our imagination? Does a jellyfish galaxy have something to do with a jellyfish that lives in the ocean? And does a school of sardines resemble a cluster of young stars? Such questions arise when an enthusiastic zoologist talks to passionate astrophysicists and a digital illustrator transforms bizarre discussions into unique imagery.

Under the premise of Senegalese forestry engineer Baba Dioum, "In the end we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught", a group of five women embarked on a project. Their mission: introduce the general public to pairs of astronomical and marine "beasts "– and make them fall in love with them. Inspired by the wondrous Bestiario del Reyno de Chile" illustrations and the "Astro Memo" game, the team created a beautifully illustrated book with key facts and curiosities about some of the most extraordinary creatures in the seas and the skies.

In this Kosmisches Kino, we join Dr Amelia Bayo (ESO) on a journey above and below the coastal horizon, where we will meet beautiful beasts and learn to see them with new eyes.
