The ORIGINS Cluster of Excellence published an illustrated book in 2023. The authors and image collectors were Prof. Dr. Ulrich Walter (ORIGINS PI and presenter of SPACETIME on WeltTV), Daniel Bäumler (editor at WeltTV), and the science communicators Dr. Odele Straub (ORIGINS) and Stefan Waldenmaier (ORIGINS).
What's it about?
The beginning of the world, and thus also the beginning of our own life story, dates back 13.8 billion years: The Big Bang is the origin of our universe. This is the cradle of humanity. And this is the basis of the deep drive to want to know how the universe works, how it is structured, and how it evolves. And above all: how it came into being in the first place.
The universe can produce life; we are proof of that.
ORIGINS scientists are searching for the blueprint of everything. And although they are gaining new insights at ever shorter intervals, they are only at the beginning of their journey to the frontiers of knowledge. Our picture of the universe is far from complete. We can actually see only a small fraction of it.
Whether the emergence of life in our universe is an incredible coincidence or inevitable is one of humanity's most fundamental questions. Scientists around the world are therefore searching for answers. This is precisely what we're researching in the ORIGINS Cluster of Excellence!
